Born in London now living in Hertfordshire, Derek's work is inspired by natural and urban landscape and man's manipulation within it. His passion for photographic art deepened in that moment when he realized that his photography wasn't to do with facts, it was about imagination.

Derek studied photography at Harrow College. Throughout a long and varied photographic career, he devoted most of his energies to achieving technical excellence in the field. Now Derek has moved the emphasis more towards the provocation of thought and imagination - photography as art.

Building on his knowledge and experience, gained from working in the social and commercial fields, he is now exploring a new creative portfolio. Hand-printing these images as fine art giclée limited editions, Derek has complete control over the creative process.

NEWS " This year has brought a number of private commissions - but the highlight for me was being short-listed for the 2008 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. To my absolute amazement, my canvas "Blue Pool" actually appeared on BBC TV ... in a programme introduced by non-other than Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen! Not quite 15 minutes of fame but it felt like it! "Thus, the task is not so much to see
what no one yet has seen
but to think what nobody yet has thought
about that which everybody sees."

Schopenhauer
